Peyton Manning is 2009 NFL MVP

Peyton Manning is making his claim as the best NFL player of all time, winning his record fourth Most Valuable Player Award. This one came in a landslide as he racked up 39.5 out of the 50 votes. Drew Brees was second in the voting with 7.5 votes with Philip Rivers garnering two and Brett Favre taking a single vote. This win breaks Manning’s tie with Favre at three MVP Awards and he now moves to a class all by himself.

Manning looked dominant all year long in leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 14-0 start to the season that included seven come from behind victories. He threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns. A couple of his receivers had great seasons as well with Reggie Wayne grabbing 100 catches for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns and Dallas Clark, who had 100 catches for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns. Manning also had to break in a few young receivers along the way after Anthony Gonzalez went down for most of the season.

If you look at other sports, players have racked up more MVPs with Wayne Gretzky’s nine in the NHL, Barry Bonds with seven in baseball, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s six in the NBA.
