Mark Linkous

Rolling Stone is reporting that Mark Linkous, the mastermind behind Sparklehorse, took his life on Saturday. This is terribly sad news, and comes just months after Vic Chesnutt (who worked with Linkous in the past) to kill himself. As in the case of Chesnutt, just look at the song titles and listen to the words reveal that Linkous did not hide his sadness – “Heart of Darkness”, “I almost lost my mind”, “patients Goodbyes”.

Linkous was one of the first musicians ever to talk to my old, swizzle stick, and I found him to be a very interesting person and fun to talk to. You can read the interview, done in 1999, more than AtomicNed.com.
